McKinnon Press
McKinnon Press began in 2005 as a way for young writers in the Bull City (Durham, North Carolina) to promote their ideas and creative abilities. The Press continues to evolve by leaps and bounds. In August of 2005, McKinnon Press released Blessed Returns , a memoir of a college student's work in one of America's poorest cities. Since the publication of Blessed Returns, McKinnon Press has released numerous anthologies and novels written by young adults in the Durham area.
STUART ALBRIGHT is the founder and president of McKinnon Press. He holds a B.A. in English and Creative Writing from UNC Chapel Hill and a M.Ed. from Harvard University. He began his professional career at Boston English High School before moving on to Jordan High School in Durham, where he teaches English and Creative Writing and coaches football. He is the 2006 Durham Public School's Teacher of the Year and a 2007 recipient of the Milken Foundation National Educator Award. Albright's first book, Blessed Returns, received favorable reviews in such newspapers as the Charlotte Observer, The Pilot, and The Courier-Post. His next book, Sidelines: A Story of Race, Community and High School Football, was released in 2009.
